Great variety of snowy winter adventures
35 well-groomed slopes and 22 comfortable lifts offer enjoyable moments of skiing and snowboarding. Slopes are open 9.30-19 daily and until 23 on Fridays – this is what you can call true night skiing! Ruka is one of the most energy efficient ski resorts in Finland, and it has been carbon neutral since 2018.
Besides the nice views from the top of Ruka, your social media feeds are bound to become full of beautiful winter sceneries of nearby Oulanka, Riisitunturi and Hossa National Parks. You can combine a nice, ecological workout on snowshoes with a search of scenery spots or Northern lights.

Popular sled dog rides vary from short 2-3 km tasters to longer 10 km husky safaris. Reindeer farms welcome you to join the morning feeding of hundreds of reindeer and of course to enjoy reindeer sleigh rides in the snowy woods.

Good connections from Central Europe
Lufthansa flies from Frankfurt directly to Kuusamo once a week on Saturdays from the beginning of November 2022. Finnair has several daily flights form Helsinki to Kuusamo with rather good connections to the largest cities in Central Europe. If you wish to take the train, there are bus connections from Oulu, Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi to Kuusamo.
Local transportation works well especially at Ruka Ski Resort area and many adventures include transfers from the biggest hotels.
International Tourism Back on the Path to Growth project strives to restore accessibility to pre-COVID-19 crisis level. After this has been achieved, the aim is in the growth of tourism in Ruka-Kuusamo area in the "new normal" healt security environment.
