SkiBus lines 1 & 2 in Ruka area operate as usual during FIS Ruka Nordic. Please be prepared to walk to the Ski Stadium from the crossroads of Hiihtostadionintie and Talvijärventie, since the SkiBus is not able to drive all the way to the Ski Stadium.
SkiBus line 3 from Ruka to Kuusamo will be operating according to a special schedule during Friday-Sunday 29.11.-1.12.2024.

Use of Ruka’s FIS Ski Trails during FIS Ruka Nordic Week, 26.11.–1.12.2024
In Brief: Mornings before race events, the trails are closed to all use. In the evenings, skiing is permitted after the last race event on the trails has concluded. However, the trails close to all use at 20:00 each evening for maintenance.
More detailed:
Preparations for the event begin on Tuesday, 26.11., at which time FIS 5 will be closed to skiers. Preparation work will start early in the morning/early hours and continue until at least 19:00. Skiing is allowed from 19:00 to 20:00 if the preparations for the day have been completed. All trails close to all use at 20:00.
The first official training sessions start on Thursday, 28.11., from 10:00 to 18:00, during which time the trails are closed to everyone except competitors. Skiing is allowed from 19:00 to 20:00.
On competition days, Friday to Sunday, 29.11.–1.12., skiing is allowed on the trails after the race events have ended. Estimated end times for the competitions are Friday at 17:00, Saturday at 17:00, and Sunday at 14:00. Skiing is allowed until 20:00, after which the trails close to all use for maintenance.
Skiing within the stadium area (start/finish area) is strictly prohibited!
FIS Ruka Nordic Awarded the EcoCompass Environmental Certificate
Based on the audit conducted at the 2023 event, FIS Ruka Nordic was awarded the EcoCompass environmental certificate in December 2023. The audit, which examined ten different criteria of the industry-independent environmental system, was successfully carried out on the competition area by an independent inspector.
In practice, the event's eco-friendliness has meant an increase in recycling points in the area and proper waste management. Also, the number of driving kilometers has been reduced through coordinated carpooling for athletes and volunteers. Additionally, the environmental load has been lightened in public restaurants by using plastic-free disposable dishes. The event's approximately 700 volunteers receive their own durable cups, which they use when dining in the volunteer restaurant.
Ruka Ski Stadium
Ruka's large ski jump is the largest in Finland and it is also one of the largest in the world. It is also the largest plastic-coated ski jump in the world. It was built in 1964 and renovated in 1996.
The World Cup competition was held for the first time on the large hill during the 1996–1997 season and then annually from the 2002–2003 season at the end of November. This event is known as the FIS Ruka Nordic.
Halvor Egner Granerud holds the official hill record for Ruka's large ski jump with a distance of 150.5 meters, achieved during the World Cup in 2022. Adam Małysz, Sigurd Pettersen, and Johann André Forfang have jumped 152.0 meters in practice.
Speed on the ski trails
The Ruka Ski Stadium features three ski trails: a lit 5 km, 7.5 km, and 10 km. The longer trails include sections from the shorter trail routes. The 5 km trail used for the FIS Ruka Nordic races is one of the most challenging on the entire World Cup tour, but it is also available for everyone to ski outside of competitions. The flattest section of the track hosts Ruka's First Snow Ski Trail (500 m in each direction, totaling 1 km).
The Impilinna descent curve on the 5 km race track is a challenging performance even for World Cup competitors, and there are occasionally spectacular falls on the descent.
